Chernobyl.....New Safe Confinement Shelter

April 1986 saw the worlds worst nuclear disaster as an explosion at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant saw radiation spread over large parts of the continent. The impact on the local population is still being felt today.

Following the explosion the still unstable reactor was encased in concrete. That concrete is deteriating with the risk of radiation leaks growing.

Novarka, a joint venture between Vinci grand projects and Bouygues Travaux Publics, are in the process of constructing the NSC (New Safe Confinement) shelter. Steel is being fabricated in Italy by Cimolai with 500,000 Greenkote TCB's being installed by steel erection teams from all over Europe. explains the project in detail.
