In 1997, with mounting debts, the board of Brighton and Hove Albion FC sold their home of 96 years, the Goldstone Ground to property developers.

In the years that followed, Brighton staged their home games almost 70 miles away in Gillingham before taking up residency in the local athletics stadium at Withdean.

The club can now finally look forward to playing at a home of their own once again as Watson steel make rapid progress on what will be known as the Brighton community stadium. When completed the stadium in the Brighton suburb of Falmer, will hold 22,500.
